Plastic Diary

Because plastic pollution is the direct result of human actions, I think it is best to understand how often unconscious and wasteful we are regarding plastic use by monitoring my own daily plastic waste. Thus, this artwork serves as a visual diary for me to track how much plastic I waste in a day and how much of it would get thrown into the ocean.

Artwork Presentation

Each year, we produce 300 million tonnes of plastic waste (1). 10 percent of the total plastic waste ends up in the ocean (around 8-10 million tons of plastic waste), and of which 70% sinks to the bottom of the ocean (2, 3). While the 30% left of plastic are floating among Garbage Patches and along shorelines (4). Using this data to derive the artwork, I was able to estimate how much plastic I used would probably end up in the ocean and how much would remain on the surface of the ocean.
